Mark up sheets and comment with your team
The Markup tab draws clouds, callouts, shapes, notes and comment pins on a sheet, and every markup carries its own comment thread. Use it to keep questions and scope notes on the drawing; marking up and commenting need an estimator seat.
What it's useful for
- A rim elevation on the plan disagrees with the profile, and you pin the question for the teammate who has the profile sheet.
- You cloud an area you've left out of your scope so the printed review set shows the exclusion.
- A project manager on a free viewer seat opens the Markup panel's Open filter before bid day to see which questions are still unanswered.
Draw a cloud or callout
Markup sits apart from your conditions (named, colored measurement groups with a unit), so it never changes a quantity. Besides Cloud and Callout, the tab holds Rect, Ellipse and Arrow (two clicks each), Text for a free note, and Hilite and Pen, which draw as you drag.
- Open the Markup tab and click Cloud.
- Pick a color from the swatches above the sheet.
- Click at least three points around the area you want to flag.
- Press Esc to close the cloud.
- Click Callout, click where the arrow points, then click where the text goes.
- Type the note in the Callout text box and click away to save it.
Pin a question and mention a teammate
Click any markup, not only a pin, to open its thread. The link icon in a thread copies a link that opens the sheet zoomed to that markup.
- On the Markup tab, click Pin, then click the spot on the sheet; its thread opens.
- Type your question in the reply box.
- Type @ and pick a teammate from the list.
- Click Comment, or press Enter, to post it.
- Read the reply in the same thread, then click Resolve.
Find mentions and open markup
To put markup on paper, use Print on the File tab and keep comments & markup ticked.
- Click the bell in the header to see comments that mention you.
- Click a mention to open its sheet, zoomed to the markup.
- In the Markup panel below the conditions list, pick Open, Resolved or All.
- Click a row to jump to that markup on its sheet.
- Click Reopen in a resolved thread if the question comes back.
Limits and checks
- Viewer seats are free and read-only: they can read markup and threads but can't draw markup, comment or resolve.
- Marking up, commenting and resolving need an estimator seat. Free includes 1 estimator seat; more estimators need Pro seats.
- Only the person who drew a markup, or a workspace admin, can delete it.
- You can mention members of your workspace only, and not yourself.
- Markup never changes a quantity, so a cloud around an area doesn't remove it from the takeoff.
Questions
Can a free viewer seat comment or mark up?
No. Viewer seats are free and read-only: they see markup and comment threads but can't draw, comment or resolve. Marking up and commenting need an estimator seat.
Does markup change my quantities?
No. Markup sits on the sheet apart from your conditions, so clouds, callouts and pins never add to or subtract from a quantity.
Does markup print?
Yes, when you choose. Print on the File tab has a comments & markup checkbox, so you can print a sheet with or without it.
